Pride

I don’t understand many things in the Old Testament. When God purposely hardened certain people’s hearts and softened others’ hearts to accomplish His plan.

But one thing I do know is that God’s plan is way beyond my human comprehension capability. I don’t even have the right to question the purpose of His plan.

“Woe to those who quarrel with their Maker, those who are nothing but potsherds among the potsherds on the ground. Does the clay say to the potter, ‘What are you making?’ Does your work say, ‘The potter has no hands’? Isaiah 45:9 (NIV)

Maybe you also have the same experiences as I do in church gatherings; whenever a mention of the return of our Lord Jesus Christ, most would try to change the subject. The argument would be that no one knows when Jesus will be back. Some would even condemn that the reputation would be lost if it didn’t happen.

Reputation? I only seek our Lord’s glory!

Throughout the Bible, the second coming of our Lord has been preached repeatedly. I always wonder why we don’t pay attention to the return of our Lord and Savior and be ready for it. Wouldn’t that be the most important thing being a follower of Christ to see the glory of our Lord in person? We say we love Jesus but don’t want to see Him too soon?!

I think maybe many are not ready or fear the consequences of things that only we and God know. Maybe there are lingering things going on in our lives that we don’t want to deal with. Maybe we are too complacent and attached to this world. Maybe we know that our loved ones are not ready. Whatever motive we have, it is a selfish one. We know that saying things that make others uncomfortable can be difficult in churches. Most Christians love the prosperity gospel and preaching that makes them feel good. Pastors are afraid to preach repentance so they don’t scare people off by calling them sinners. Whatever the number of attendance the churches are concerned about today, it is not what matters to our Lord. Our Lord set that condition already. He said, “Whenever two or more gathered in my name, I will be there”. He didn’t say 200. In fact, some of the best fellowships I ever had were only 2 or 3 people. He cares no number but that we are with Him and not against Him!

“But you are not to be called ‘Rabbi,’ for you have one Teacher, and you are all brothers. And do not call anyone on earth’ father,’ for you have one Father, and He is in heaven. Nor are you to be called instructors, for you have one Instructor, the Messiah. The greatest among you will be your servant. For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.” Matthew 23:8-12 (NIV)

Our Lord said that He and the Father are One. The will of the Father means following our Lord’s commands. We are here only as your brothers in Christ. We will always do our best to humble ourselves and give advice based on the Lord’s commands. So there is nothing to lose and everything to gain.
