I Am The Christ

For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many. And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of sorrows.” Matthew 24:5-8 (NKJV)

I believe our Lord’s return is soon, and we are in the Tribulation period. We have discussed the false prophets and the “I am the Christ” movement. Most of you know the TV show “The Chosen,” and they are preparing for season five. I watched season one, and then I stopped. This show has millions of followers, and they have made a lot of money by telling the story of the Gospel and portraying our Lord and His disciples. I’m not against people making money; I also have a job to make a living. However, one thing I can never do is portray as our Lord Jesus Christ and call Him Lord simultaneously. When our Lord Jesus Christ said that there is only one Teacher and one Instructor, did He mean anyone who portrays Him by saying things our Lord did not say can also be called a Teacher and an Instructor? Or did He mean only Him alone?

“I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this scroll: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to that person the plagues described in this scroll. And if anyone takes words away from this scroll of prophecy, God will take away from that person any share in the tree of life and in the Holy City, which are described in this scroll.” Revelation 22:18-19 (NIV)

I believe our Lord saw that 2,000 years ago, someone would come and say, “I am the Christ.” I think there is a reason why He walked on earth during that time so no one in the present day could know what He looks like, and no one could worship a face or a picture of Him. But we will all know what He looks like when He shows up in the sky with His heavenly force of army.

We discussed the yeast yesterday. Modern science has several names for this kind of yeast: Mentalism or NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming). It links neurological processes, language, and behavioural patterns to achieve specific goals. Hypnotherapists and leadership development use this kind of technique. Audiences are often guided through storytelling and dramatic pauses connected with personal experiences. Many mentalists are directors, actors, psychologists, and magicians. They create an engaging and mysterious experience for their audience. They lead the audience’s perception and influence the audience’s memory to make new memories and moments of wonder.

I have read comments from the show’s followers. Many shared that this TV show brought them back to church and reading the Bible. They were excited. But during their prayers, they see the actor who plays our Lord appear in their thoughts. I believe the show producers have achieved their goals with the “I am the Christ” movement. Some may think there is nothing wrong with it. I don’t think anyone would like it when your spouse thinks of you; another person’s face shows up.

As disciples, we know it is not about us anymore. It is about our Lord Jesus Christ. Do you think our Lord would like it when we think of Him and an actor’s face shows up?

“You were running a good race. Who cut in on you to keep you from obeying the truth? That kind of persuasion does not come from the one who calls you. “A little yeast works through the whole batch of dough.” I am confident in the Lord that you will take no other view. The one who is throwing you into confusion, whoever that may be, will have to pay the penalty.” Galatians 5:7-10 (NIV)

Just so you know, our Lord Jesus Christ needs no introduction, much less an untruthful representation by an actor with a fake accent who is a sinner. The Bible has to be the only source from which we come to know and love our Lord. If a sinner appears in your prayers when you pray to our Lord Jesus Christ, I recommend you stop watching The Chosen if you have not done so already and pray for forgiveness and healing.

Our Lord is merciful. If He could heal me, He can heal you, too.
