Obey Vs. Disobey

I remember discussing obeying authority with a Christian brother in June 2023. I did a self-assessment that I have followed all the regulations, procedures, and rules, paid all taxes, never committed a crime, and followed all requirements, restrictions, and everything regulated by the town, city, province, and federal government. I also helped whenever they needed my help in the communities.

But one thing they asked, I did not obey. I choose to obey God first and the precious gift of the Free Will.

My life was made difficult because of that. I was isolated, and many friends left. Some called me names for not caring for others, and I was excluded from all social settings. Not just hospitals if I was sick, I couldn’t go to restaurants, gyms, or pools for swimming, which is the activity I love, or take train or air travel for work within Canada and abroad. My dad had sepsis and almost died and my mom had heart surgery overseas, and I wasn’t allowed to board a plane to visit them. Everywhere I read, people wished me dead. I cried out to our Lord because that force was powerful. I was asked to be patient and keep my mouth shut. Knowing that this Beast has only been allowed for 42 months. My experience cannot even compare to those who have lost loved ones during this period. I feel sorry for them. I did not cause that, though. I was kept captive as punishment for my disobedience!

The Bible calls us to have wisdom (over 200 mentions), which will protect us when danger comes to our doorstep. It is understandable that we want to live comfortably, love our neighbours, keep our jobs, exercise, socialize, and play sports. Let’s not forget our Lord. We ought to take a stand for our Lord, even if it can be costly or not welcoming in this world. Then we are no longer “neither hot nor cold”.

His counsel is for us to be like pure gold, which undergoes refinement in the fire (trials). We can wear white clothes because we have repented and abandoned the old sinful way. We can ask for a heart of discernment and seek truth to see what Jesus sees.

“To the angel of the church in Laodicea write: These are the words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the ruler of God’s creation. I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth. You say, ‘I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.’ But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked. I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the fire, so you can become rich; and white clothes to wear, so you can cover your shameful nakedness; and salve to put on your eyes, so you can see.” Revelation 3:14-18 (NIV)
