Evil Spirits

Many Christians don’t like to talk about evil spirits. Most try their best to avoid the subject of evil spirits, demons, and the devil. Everyone has their reason and what they believe. After all, it is Free Will.

In Daily Cross, I often refer to Christians because our mission is to make disciples for our Lord. A fundamental condition for being a disciple is to be a Christian who believes in our Lord Jesus Christ. Not all Christians are disciples, and all disciples are Christians.

Many supernatural signs occurred during our Lord’s ministry while He was with His disciples Peter, John, James, and others. He raised the dead, healed the sick, cast out evil spirits and demons, and rebuked the devil. One familiar scene was that all evil spirits and demons begged and submitted to Jesus. Jesus could see them, and these powerful evil spirits and demons who couldn’t die until the end-time; they all feared Jesus. I’m thinking that we can meet and know people on other continents using FaceTime or other phone apps now. But rarely do we know those people well enough to fear, respect or obey them. But all these evil ones knew Lord Jesus as the Holy One from God! When did they know Him, and how? I wanted to find out.

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.” John 1:1-3 (KJV)

The Bible tells us that the Word, our Lord, was with God, the Father, in the beginning. They are One. They are the maximum authority, and everything that came after the creation of that realm has to know the maximum authority. The same thing happens in our realm; we know who is in charge of our government, and they have the earthly authority to punish someone they don’t like.

Several indications in the Bible led me to know more about Enoch.

“When Enoch had lived 65 years, he became the father of Methuselah. After he became the father of Methuselah, Enoch walked faithfully with God 300 years and had other sons and daughters. Altogether, Enoch lived a total of 365 years. Enoch walked faithfully with God; then he was no more, because God took him away.” Genesis 5:21-24 (NIV)

“Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied about them: “See, the Lord is coming with thousands upon thousands of his holy ones to judge everyone and to convict all of them of all the ungodly acts they have committed in their ungodliness, and of all the defiant words ungodly sinners have spoken against him.” Jude 1:14-15 (NIV)

Enoch, son of Jared, is the 7th generation from Adam. He was one of very few who did not experience death. God took him. Jude mentioned Enoch, who prophesied about judgment and the coming of the Lord with thousands of his holy ones to convict ungodly sinners. Enoch prophesized the second coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and this prophecy occurred 5,000+ years ago.

“When human beings began to increase in number on the earth and daughters were born to them, the sons of God saw that the daughters of humans were beautiful, and they married any of them they chose. Then the Lord said, “My Spirit will not contend with humans forever, for they are mortal; their days will be a hundred and twenty years. The Nephilim were on the earth in those days—and also afterward—when the sons of God went to the daughters of humans and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, men of renown.” Genesis 6:1-4 (NIV)

“And the angels who did not keep their positions of authority but abandoned their proper dwelling—these he has kept in darkness, bound with everlasting chains for judgment on the great Day.” Jude 1:6 (NIV)

Many Christians know what Nephilims were. They were known as giants, sons of the fallen Angels (the fallen Watchers), and daughters of men. This reference to Enoch by Jude led me to the Book of Enoch. The Book of Enoch was not part of the canonical books, which I used as a reference. The Book of Enoch talks about the Watcher and tells the story of 200 fallen Angels (fallen Watchers) led by Semyaza and Azazel who descended on Earth during the time of Jared (father of Enoch) and took wives, created the Nephilim, and taught advanced knowledge to mankind, ultimately leading to punishment by God, the great flood, and their destruction. It provided the origins of evil spirits and demons – the dead Nephilim. There were many.

“My judgment for the giants is that since they are born from flesh they will be called evil spirits and will remain on the earth. Because they were created from above, from the holy Watchers, at death their spirits will come forth from their bodies and dwell on the earth. They will be called evil spirits. The heavenly spirits will dwell in heaven, but the terrestrial spirits who were born on earth will dwell on earth. The evil spirits of the giants will be like clouds. They will afflict, corrupt, tempt, battle, work destruction on the earth, and do evil; they will not eat nor drink, but be invisible. They will rise up against the children of men and against the women, because they have proceeded from them.“ The Watchers 15:8-12 from the Ancient Book of Enoch, Johnson, Ken.

As for those fallen Angels, they asked Enoch to intercede for them before God when God decided to punish them. Enoch’s petition was not granted by God. The sins of these fallen Watchers were too great.

“I, Enoch, was blessing the Lord, the King of the world, and suddenly the Watchers called to me saying “Enoch, scribe of righteousness, go to the fallen Watchers who have left the high heaven, the holy eternal place, and have defiled themselves with women, and have done as the children of earth do, and have taken unto themselves wives and greatly corrupted themselves on the earth; tell them that they will not have peace nor forgiveness of sin, for they will not delight in their children. They will witness the slaughter of their beloved ones, and will weep over the destruction of their children, and even if they petition for all eternity they will not obtain mercy or peace.” The Watchers 12:3-5 from the Ancient Book of Enoch, Johnson, Ken.

“Then I went and spoke to them all together, and they were all afraid, and seized with fear and trembling. They asked me to petition the Lord for them for forgiveness because from this point on, they could not speak with the Lord nor lift up their eyes toward heaven, ashamed on account of the shame of their sins for which they were condemned. So I did as they asked and took their petition in regard to their individual deeds, forgiveness, and peace.” The Watchers 13:3-6 from the Ancient Book of Enoch, Johnson, Ken.

Enoch said that these fallen Watchers are bound in the abyss of the desert for 70 generations until the appointed time when our Lord returns. Four of these fallen Watchers seem to fit the description of the fallen Angels bound under the Euphrates River who would be released by the End-Time.

“It said to the sixth angel who had the trumpet, “Release the four angels who are bound at the great river Euphrates.” And the four angels who had been kept ready for this very hour and day and month and year were released to kill a third of mankind. The number of the mounted troops was twice ten thousand times ten thousand. I heard their number.” Revelation 9:14-16 (NIV)

These fallen Watchers, the fathers of these giants, knew and were afraid of our Lord. Their sons, the evil spirits and demons, would be the same. It makes sense how the legion of evil spirits knew our Lord and were terrified when they saw Him. They begged Jesus to let them go to the 2,000 pigs and drown in the river, instead of choosing to be in the abyss with their fathers.

As a disciple of our Lord Jesus Christ, you have been given the same authority to overcome evil ones in His name. We will show you when the time comes.

Keep walking on this narrow road.
