Lord’s Prayer

“And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. This, then, is how you should pray:

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.” Matthew 5:5-13

I’m grateful to our Lord. He taught us how to pray.

We start by acknowledging our Heavenly Father, the creator of Heaven and Earth. We give Him the control of our lives. We give thanks for our daily food and the Bread of Life. We ask for forgiveness for our sins and make a statement that we have also forgiven others. We humbly ask for guidance and protection from temptation because our flesh is weak, and we ask for deliverance from the enemy.

The Lord’s Prayer covers all needs of our life. I have seen its power in many situations. As our Lord said, don’t pray for a show because the Heavenly Father knows what we need already. When one prays a lengthy prayer in church, it is not for God to hear but for people to see. Those prayers are usually not from hearts when pride and fear are involved. Fear because it is to look good and fear of criticism.

Let’s look at our Lord’s Prayer again:

“Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.” Matthew 5:9-13

How long does it take you and me to pray this prayer? 30 seconds max?

If we pray this prayer 10 times a day, it will only take 5 minutes of our time. That’s the time we read one or two emails.

Yes, and you can pray it 100 times daily.

Pray it when you open your eyes in the morning and when you lie down your head at night, when you walk outside and when you are driving, when you are working, studying, sitting for coffee or tea, buying groceries, or listening to music. Pray the Lord’s Prayer without any doubt.

Paul said: Rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing.” 1 Thessalonians 5:16-17 (KJV)

You may not realize what you are doing, but you will soon see that things and people around you become better—just better. Everything becomes better because of your prayers — precise, effective and faithful prayers taught by our Lord.

“Truly I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them. Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.” Mark 11:23-24

What else do you need to know about the power of the Lord’s Prayer?

A late martial artist once said, “I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times.” This man was considered the most respected pioneer of martial arts in the 1970s, starting the trend worldwide. Christians are aware of spiritual warfare from the enemy. These attacks can be fierce. Kick has no use here. I have seen people not knowing what to do under these attacks. Prayers couldn’t come out because of the oppressive force or not knowing what to pray. Imagine that you have prayed the Lord’s Prayers 10,000 times. Praying the Lord’s prayer is now part of your muscle memory. You will be able to pray the Lord’s prayer in any situation, even under enormous pressure. I’m sure the enemy fears the same as that famous martial artist.

Our Lord is faithful. He will be there 24/7 when you call Him.

May His will be done.
