Whoever Disowns Me Before Others

Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, a whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything”. James 1:2-4 (NIV)

“….. we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame..” Romans 5:2-4 (NIV)

Many of us know about suffering through personal experiences. No one on earth is immune to the suffering. As Christians, we have come to know that suffering is not a bad thing. It is beneficial to our hearts. It produces good things for what we need, not what we want.

Our Lord knew the suffering by becoming like one of us and less than the angels below Him. But those who were His own did not recognize Him and rejected Him. Many know about the feeling of betrayal, which hurts even more than physical pain. Our Lord and His name became curse words. They replaced His birthday with a creepy old guy who is always in a red pyjama and likes to sneak into houses at midnight. Many no longer celebrate His birthday and only celebrate the day off as a holiday. The enemy is deceitful, and he may not attack the Christian faith directly, but he and his minions go against everything our Lord Jesus Christ stands for. Their agenda of self-righteousness is actually the full display of perversity and sexual immorality against the holiness of our Lord Jesus Christ. Whoever is against their agenda may suffer persecution or even jail time because of the hate speech law. Christians are afraid to proclaim the name of Jesus Christ in public so they don’t offend anyone who doesn’t like Him. Imagine you cannot acknowledge your loved ones in public because you fear others may not like them.

“Whoever acknowledges me before others, I will also acknowledge before my Father in Heaven. But whoever disowns me before others, I will disown before my Father in Heaven.” Matthew 10:32-33 (NIV)

Our Lord said that if we do not acknowledge Him before others, He will not acknowledge us before the Heavenly Father. For me, this means losing salvation. Maybe some theologians can explain their way out of this, but I cannot see how.

We will stand before the presence of the Heavenly Father because our Lord says so, or we cannot stand before the presence of the Heavenly Father because our Lord commands so. If someone is disowned by our Lord and can not stand before God’s presence when the moment comes, there is only one other destination for that someone.

Let’s not take this command lightly, please!

Some of us suffer not because of our own family relationships, work, housing, finances, or health situations but because of the salvation of our loved ones. It is no longer about us anymore. We are blessed to know that earthly suffering is only temporary, and we go through those sufferings with joy because our eyes are on the Cross. We suffer further because we see some eyes do not see, some ears do not hear, and they have hearts of stone. We pray for them because they are our friends and families. We are merely sinners, and our hearts ached because of that; I cannot imagine how our Lord, who died for you and me on the Cross, must feel when we disown Him.
