Healing At The Pool – Your Turn

“Sometime later, Jesus went up to Jerusalem for one of the Jewish festivals. Now there is in Jerusalem near the Sheep Gate a pool, which in Aramaic is called Bethesda and which is surrounded by five covered colonnades. Here a great number of disabled people used to lie—the blind, the lame, the paralyzed. One who was there had been an invalid for thirty-eight years. When Jesus saw him lying there and learned that he had been in this condition for a long time, he asked him, “Do you want to get well?” John 5:1-6 (NIV)

I recently returned to work in the city where I lived before the pandemic. In the morning, I went to the same community center for laps swimming. I asked if a friend was still working there. He was the rabbi in the Daily Cross’ “Healing By The Pool.” He has left. I thought about sharing this story with new readers of Daily Cross. It shows our Lord’s faithfulness in answering our prayers. Part of the story is like this:

“The rabbi knew I was a Christian, and we shared some scriptures in the dressing room during the morning swimming. He was surprised I was more familiar with their Torah and Tanakh than he was. I think no Christians would be surprised to know the Old Testament of our Bible. After not seeing him for a while, I saw him one day, and he looked unwell. His appearance showed visible symptoms of sickness. I approached him in the pool and asked if I could pray for him. It could be unusual for a Christian to pray for a rabbi, but he said yes and told me that he was having health issues and a fear of cancer. We agreed to meet in the lobby after swimming.

It was early morning, so we went to an empty classroom where no one could see us since he was known to people there. I asked him to sit down so I could lay my right hand on top of his head.

“ I don’t believe in Jesus. Is that okay?” He said.

“ Do you want to be healed?” I said.

“ Yes”, he said.

I prayed in the name and authority of our Lord Jesus Christ to cast out the evil spirits causing his sickness and thanked our Lord for His faithfulness. The rabbi thanked me and hugged me. Two weeks later, I saw him again in the dressing room. I had never seen a smile so big. He came running toward me and yelling:

“The prayer worked! The prayer worked!”

Our Lord always works in mysterious ways…..”

This happened just before the pandemic.

Why am I reminding this again?

I believe you can do the same because you are trying your best to walk on the narrow road as a disciple of our Lord. When it is your turn, pray without fear and no doubt. The prayer of a righteous person is effective. The most important is because our Lord also promised this:

Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.” John 14:12-14 (NIV)

We cannot heal anyone, but He can.
