Nothing Hidden That Will Not Be Disclosed

For there is nothing hidden that will not be disclosed, and nothing concealed that will not be known or brought out into the open. Therefore consider carefully how you listen. Whoever has will be given more; whoever does not have, even what they think they have will be taken from them.” Luke 8:17-18 (NIV)

Again, I want to remind us about pride due to the recent events in which megachurch pastors fell from grace. There is probably more waiting in line because the time is near, and our Lord cannot be mocked. I have tried to remind other disciples of our Lord about their turning points of repentance so they could revisit those moments as often as needed. Some fell to the ground on their knees. Some had their hearts beating so fast that they couldn’t breathe. Some couldn’t stop weeping because of His Grace and Love. Revisiting those moments to humble ourselves is beneficial because of our sinful nature and short memory.

Simon Peter claimed he would die with our Lord Jesus Christ before heading to Jerusalem with Him. Then, Peter denied our Lord three times in the high priest’s courtyard 2,000 years ago. He wept and repented after a rooster reminded him. I believe that was Peter’s turning point. Peter humbled himself and confessed his sin to other disciples for what he did in the high priest’s courtyard that night by denying our Lord three times. Then the whole world knew. I’m sure it was from Peter’s own disclosure because on that night across the Kidron Valley when they arrested our Lord in the garden, all disciples deserted Him and fled. Only Peter and John followed our Lord at a distance. John, known to the high priest, entered the courtyard with permission. Peter had to wait outside the courtyard and was not allowed to enter. A servant girl in charge of the entrance asked Peter if he was a disciple of our Lord, and Peter denied it for the first time. Later, John came out and asked the servant girl to allow Peter to enter the courtyard. In the courtyard, two other persons questioned Peter the same at different times. Peter denied both that he knew our Lord. I don’t think Peter would deny his Lord if John were present with him. But if John were indeed there with Peter, John would only see Peter twice denying our Lord. Only Peter knew he denied his Lord and Savior three times before the rooster crowed.

By the end, Peter requested to be crucified upside down because he felt unworthy to die in the same manner as his Lord and Savior. Simon Peter, an uneducated fisherman and sinner, became the number one disciple of our Lord Jesus Christ. The whole world knew what Peter did in the courtyard, but he didn’t care. Even though our Lord had forgiven him, Peter revisited that turning point until the end.

True repentance cannot come if one does not surrender pride.

I have seen men betray their spouses but lose patience during their recovery. They continue to hide things. It is like stabbing a knife in the back of someone who trusted you and said enough already while their wound is still bleeding. Sadly, there are no turning points for those people.

The example of the Good Landlord and His Son always helps me to make a point:

The Good Landlord and His Son hire reps to promote this exclusive vineyard. Whoever agrees to come and work in this exclusive vineyard as a tenant must follow the rules. These rules are not difficult and will only make you mature and complete. The benefits of living in this vineyard are the dreams of many. The reps are tasked with explaining the rules and care for the new and regular tenants, and they receive payment for doing so. Some get very rich with the perks that come with the job. These reps must also follow the rules and lead by example. Certain reps fail to follow the rules and hide their sins. They have forgotten that nothing hidden that will not be disclosed, and nothing concealed that will not be known. Maybe they have gotten too comfortable, and their memory is short, or they think they are above the rules with many books written as best sellers. I don’t know….

“It is impossible for those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, who have shared in the Holy Spirit, who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the coming age and who have fallen away, to be brought back to repentance. To their loss they are crucifying the Son of God all over again and subjecting him to public disgrace.” Hebrews 6:4-6 (NIV)

For those who have tasted the heavenly gift and the Holy Spirit, the goodness of God’s word, and the unconditional love of our Lord Jesus Christ, if they no longer believe in repentance for the forgiveness of sins, our Lord won’t be crucified again.

Remember, pastors are regular tenants like you and me.

If you care about them, don’t put them on a pedestal.
